Checking-In / Updates!

Hi!

I wanted to pop-in and say 'Hello!'  We are currently weeks away from Thanksgiving, and that means that our Second Unit Project will begin shortly for ELA/R.  Students were already given their Unit Guides at the beginning of the Unit, so please ask them for those handouts, as they should be in their binders (behind the ELA/R tab).  For your convenience, they are listed below:

6TH Grade:
ELA/R & Social Studies & Science: ComicCon is looking to feature new superhero and villain masterpieces!  What script can you create that encompasses dramatic terminology and figurative language, similar to your readings of dramatic texts within Unit #2?
Math? - Please contact Mr. Cox.

7TH Grade:
ELA/R & Social Studies & Science: European exploration is expanding throughout Texas and human bodies are adapting to this change.  Using figurative language, what dramatic script can you create from the perspective of at least three out of the ten body systems from either a Native American or a European explorer?
Math? - Please contact Mr. Cox.

8TH Grade:

ELA/R & Social Studies ONLY: Colonists have experienced both positive and traumatic life events.  Using figurative language, write a soliloquy/narrative poem from the perspective of a colonist of your choice.
Science & Math? - Please contact Mr. Favata & Mr. Cox.

Secondly, if you are not signed-up for "Remind 101", please find more information here on my Blog regarding that; it is a faster way of connecting to me via text-messaging (without giving out my phone number, of course).  :)  Be aware that I try to give out at least one update per week regarding assignments, news, etcetera.  I did mention the other week about changing around Units; students will still need their Non-Fiction Novels, but it will not be until next semester, as I have switched our Units around.  I apologize to those who did not receive this information!

Tomorrow (Thursday, 10/25), I will be giving out more information to your student(s) regarding ELA/R Activates (Assignments) that are upcoming for the remainder of Unit #2.  You may connect to the link that includes this Assignment information by clicking here:  Core Class - Assignment Logs. I try to keep this as updated as possible so that you are aware of items going in the Gradebook, and it is usually updated at the beginning of each week.

Lastly, Renaissance STAR will take place this Friday (10/25) during the first few hours of school. If your student has a laptop/tablet, please have them bring it on this day, as school computers are limited. You may wish to send your child to school with a book to read, as well, that way they may read silently as others are testing.

This is all I have for now. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me any time via Remind 101, e-mail, and/or phone. I appreciate your support and time!

Thank You,

Ms. Mendoza
